Suborna Ahmed

Dr. Suborna Ahmed is an Associate Professor of Teaching in the Department of Forest Resources Management, Faculty of Forestry & Environmental Stewardship, at the University of British Columbia. She teaches data analytics, computing, forest biometrics, and quantitative methods for forestry and natural-resources students.

Her teaching focuses on helping students move from spreadsheet-based data analysis to reproducible workflows in R, Quarto, and modern open-source tools. She develops open educational resources that use real forestry and environmental datasets, scaffolded practice, active learning, and AI-assisted debugging to support students with different levels of coding experience.

Dr. Ahmed’s scholarly and teaching interests include forestry data analytics, forest biometrics, reproducible research, open education, inclusive quantitative pedagogy, and the responsible use of generative AI in technical learning. She is the project lead for this OER and has developed it with support from student contributors and collaborators to make data-analysis training more accessible, practical, and relevant for forestry and natural-resources education.
