Optional: Spatial Data Analysis in R
Spatial data analysis is an important skill in forestry and natural-resources work, but it is now treated as optional extension material in this book. The required FRST 232 pathway focuses on Excel, R, tidyverse workflows, data cleaning, joins, visualization, an integrated case study, and communication.
If you want additional help with spatial data analysis in R, you can use the optional spatial chapters — Spatial Data in R with sf and Map Forestry Data with leaflet — kept as a separate resource. They cover coordinate reference systems, reading and reprojecting spatial files, distances and buffers (sf), static thematic maps with geom_sf(), and interactive web maps with leaflet, using the open CSRD parks dataset.
